Justin Rys, the BigKiwi, issues a warning “You are not indestructible”

In his heyday, Justin Rys was Mr New Zealand, Mr Australasia and Mr Oceanic bodybuilding champion.

To make himself big, he took any kind of drug he could lay his hands on – including steroids.  But now he’s health is failing. “Basically, something is happening to my brain. The doctors don’t know why I can’t speak, I collapse all the time, dribbling heaps.”

Justin knows 20 years of taking steroids and other illegal drugs are partly to blame for his health and now, he has a warning for others: You are not indestructible.

Justin says all he wants is for other people to benefit from his mistakes. “I’m not going to be a hypocrite and say, ‘don’t do this’, because who the hell am I to say? Look at me. All I want is people to understand if they don’t do it properly, they’ll end up just the way I am. And I don’t recommend that in the slightest.”

I’m not going to get into a drugs/no drugs debate.  The facts are simple, some people are going to use whatever they can get their hands on to build muscle.  It’s not about gaining the competitive edge on stage, or winning trophy or glory always, it’s about building muscle.  Getting bigger.  This is a tragic story that unfortunately isn’t going to end well.  He is not the first, and he won’t be last. Call it an obsession, or sickness, or whatever you will, it is the facts.  You can never stop people from choosing this path.  But as I’ve always said, do it properly, know what you are doing.  You don’t know what’s going on inside you, and you can’t always be certain what you are taking.  Putting your hands over your eyes and not monitoring what’s happening inside you with regular checkups and blood work is simply foolish.

Those you know me, know that when I was young and foolish I tried steriods, but what I didn’t know at that time is I had one malformed kidney from birth until it failed.  I was lucky I got a kidney transplant.  I had a lucky outcome, as I didn’t monitor what was going on with my body.  .

I wish Justin Rys all the best for his future. To read his latest story and watch the video visit here
